Is it the end of lol?

Summary

  • 27% of Brits use lol when wanting express laughter
  • Youngest mingle Trend participants most likely to use haha

haha,hehe,lol..which will stand the test of time?

facebook recently published the results of a survey which has reportedly discovered that lol is now outdated and haha is popular. Let's just explain, lol (laugh out loud),haha, hehe and those smiley faces (emoji) are ways to express laughter when writing to someone by email, on a social media site or on a messaging service. Lol was long thought to be the most frequently used expression of laughing out loud, but facebook's findings seem to dispell this theory. mingle Trend set about finding out...

In the recent representative survey, 27% of Brits admitted using lol, 18% went for haha, 16% for smiley face and 29% used none of the options given. It seems as though the use of these abbreviations does vary from generation to generation. Indeed 48% of 16-19 years use haha and 30% express their laughter by an emoji and only 7% use lol. Now compare that to even the 20-29 years; 20% still use lol and 41% of 40-49 years.

As we all know, the youngest generations have always set the trends so it seems lol really is on its way out....well after a few years anyway 😉
